Realistically affordable or general preference regardless of budget? Are you referring to NYC area or suburbs as well?

Five Towns, Long Island
Cedarhurst, Long Island
(The above are both south of Queens, close to the south shore)
Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn (Sheepshead bay area)

Borough Park?? No thanks, too old and dreary of a neighborhood. By the way, five towns and cedarhurst are Jewish areas. I would have put Great Neck on the list but the prices are ridiculously over inflated there and the proprty taxes are nuts.

Manhattan Beach isn't too Jewish but it is Russian and ofcourse the water front. I prefer being close to the water/coast.

Well Five Towns & Cedarhurst are in the same general area and they have synagogues everywhere since they are Jewish areas. Manhattan Beach probably none that are walking distance to my knowledge.

Since when are you concerned about synagogues being in walking distance to where you live?

Well, I have two places that I would like to live in (they are kind of in contrast with each other). On one hand I would love to live in Manhatten in the upper west side. It is a dream but one I really hope to reach even if just for a little bit. Manhatten is just so full of life and energy and its my most favorite place in the world. On the other hand, I would love to live somewhere on the Island maybe, anywhere by the water front. That would be my other factor of peace and serenity.

I have worked in the city since I was 16 and I'm entirely disgusted by it. Way too noisy and crowded, not to mention people are weird. Overloaded with buses and cabs and construction everywhere.. And its the world's 1st terrorist target..

Boy do you know how to break a fantasy! There are weirdos everywhere, no matter where you go. The place that I spoke about (the upper west side) is a very cultural and educational place. Every time I am there its like i get charged with soo much energy. You are right about it being "the world's 1st terrorist target", but so is Israel and I lived there for 10 years. You cant escape things like that. If its meant to happen it will, no matter where you are :)
But hey, its just my opinion.

Such a kind and balanced response. You made good points. I agree, its all within one's perception and I agree the upper west side is very unique and has a different feel to it. And regarding terrorism, yes, if its meant to be, its meant to be.
