View Full Version : Chess: checkmate in 3 moves
TheGreatOne 07-31-2005, 02:42 PM Let's see if we have chess enthusiasts.
The position is the following:
White: K d5, N b6, pawns: a2, b2, c5
Black: K b5, pawns: a5, a6, b4
White start and checkmate Black in 3 moves.
TheGreatOne 08-04-2005, 06:39 PM Is the lack of response due to:
1) difficulty of the problem;
2) lack of interest?
If it's the former, I can, potentially, give a hint for this one and post in the future 2-move problems instead. If there's no interest (despite views of the thread), then it's a different issue.
I'ts hard to believe that there are no chess enthusiasts on this site, but facts, I guess, are stubbornly pointing towards that.

What is that piece called "N"? Does that stand for a knight? I assume that "K" stands for a King...we need one on each side. :innoc04:
TheGreatOne 08-04-2005, 07:01 PM correct, "N" denotes Knight, "K" denotes King.

WisePrince7 08-04-2005, 07:08 PM I think I did a check-mate in one move :)
white goes pawn a2 to a4. But I am somewhat reluctant about that. Can I move a pawn 2 places like that without being hit by a black pawn on b4?
TheGreatOne 08-04-2005, 07:11 PM The pawn will be eaten with the pawn on b4 by "en passe" rule -- vzyatiye na prokhode. So it's not the solution.

TheGreatOne 08-05-2005, 07:18 PM BTW, people, if you want to know the solution, don't hesitate to ask for it in your post. :)
But good luck in your attempts to solve. Even if it doesn't happen this time, I hope it's a time well spent.

According to my calculations 1. Na4 Kxa4 2. Kc4 b3 3. axb3# mate!
Solution 2: 1. Na4 b3 2. Nc3+ Kb4 3. a3# mate!
VERY NICE!!!!
