I have just met with Pat Riley and listened to one of his outstanding speeches. What a great coach he is.
Anyways, his speech concentrated around coaching, leadership and ambition. I wanted to share and discuss one of the stories that he just told us about motivation:
One of the sponsors of his team invited the team over and mentioned to the Pat not to let any of the players near the huge pool that he had in his mansion. His wonder was finally satisfied when the sponsor after the meal took all out by the pool. The pool was swarming with the alligators. He decided to make a point to the team about motivation. He asked, “Who among you is so brave that would jump into the water and swim across to prove that he is the best.” Obviously, no one was motivated enough to even bother showing off. “Well,” he said, “Let me give you motivation here – the one that swims across will get a load of money, or my huge mansion, or my beautiful daughter.” And here you go, the moment he finished his list one of the huge players jumps into the water and swims like crazy across. He finally got out all in one piece and came back all drenched shivering back to the crowd. “You see guys he was motivated!!!” “So, my man what will you chose among the things I offered – will it be my house, my daughter…” :love10:
The player stops him in the middle of his question and through the teeth says, “Just tell me who was the bastard that pushed me.” :conf:
Can you guess the moral of the story???
