I wouldn't want brain washed children.. Like many bukharian young people, won't mention anyone specific. I would have my children attend a modern yeshiva, which is still better than public schools. Today they come looking for morality” Rebbitzin Tziporah Heller, a well known educator. Religion has played an integral role thought history both on a large scale -- to the nation or on a more intimate -- to an individual. In my opinion, any religion provides order in our chaotic world. Judaism particularly provides a guideline to a way of life. So if you are handed a recipe or a formula to your life, why not grab it and make important use of it? No supernatural power in this world dictates what you should and should not observe/keep. G-d gave you the tools as well as free will. As to which path you choose to take is up to, but the tools are constantly available along journey. He was mentioning about the Holocaust and how all Jews, no matter what kind (religious and nonreligous), all went together into the gas chambers. He said something along the lines of this, "You are a Jew. Whether u want to be or dont want to be, u r one. U cant get out of it. So u might as well enjoy it. Make the best of it." Those words stayed with me. And that second it just hit me---I mean I've heard it many times but it only really sunk in tonight. The nations of the world never let us forget that we are Jewish. If we are persecuted and sent in to the gas chambers together and they wont let us forget we r Jewish no matter how much we try to be secular, then y not just enjoy our Judaism and be strong in it? Y not represent what it really is? Valerie 08-18-2005, 12:54 AM This reminds me of something in a lecture i heard tonight by Nissan Yakubov. So whether its the crusadees, the Nazis, or the arabs, we will constantly have this reminder. on the ther hand, at har sinai (mount. Sinai) not only Torah was given to our nation, but new hatred was born chinat sinam (baseless hatred). So if you assimilate you die resenting that your are Jewish, but if you raise your voice and your belief, we will still be hated, simply b/c we are Jewish.
