It sounds like some other word which is translated as "Solovey". Maybe because they have a good voice. Голос как у соловья :happy34:

there are few reasons I heard why bukharian call them like taht. One of them is that Russian Jews are very light(beinkeyi) a.k.a. pusti chochqe(khazir) and tehir skin looks like person who is pes' a.k.a. leprosy...

wow that's mean and not very accurate of bukharian jews to refer to ashkenazi like that because among bukharians there are people with wide range of skin color. We have people that look like they are black and those that look very light.

l0l, tahts not really mean of Bukharian Jews, its just taht we(BJ's) are soemtimes jealose of Ashkenazim, and most of us love to say "Khundulo balo, Khundulo. Khundulo pesht raft..."

We have people that look like they are black and those that look very light.
Most of our Bukharian Jews who migrated to otehr parts of teh world like U.S. or Israel are abit tanned. Unless tehy were born in their new country. Eventhough, some bukahrians are lite, thet are not lite as... :happy25:

I despise this word!!! I hate when Bukharians call me that. When I told my parents that word, they wanted to kill me because they thought that I was cursing at them.

Я слышал что когда ашкеназы приехали в Бухарский Емират, местные евреи спрашивали их чем они занимаются. А те якобы отвечали, что они "хендел"(на идише), т.е. торговцы. Так бухарские евреи стали называть их на свой лад хундулями.

as for me, I prefer to call people the way they prefer to call themselves. in case of ashkenazim, they call themselves ashkenazim, so I think it's most appropriate to call them ashkenazim.

People tend to jump to conclusions after seeing or hearing one or two things, and categorize/stereotype right away. First look around and try to actually pay attention.

I guess noone knows for sure, but this version makes the most sense. Besides, I can tell from my personal experience hunduli, especially the older generation, like to advertize what they or their friends do when you say good bye to them.
