Do you guys think it's appropriate to give holiday presents to your bosses? I spoke to a woman I work with and she said that she does not give her bosses any presents because she feels that she does their work and she does not need to be thankful for doing their work. They on the other hand give her monetary presents every year. What is your opinion?

on Rosh Hashana Rabbi Kaulfman gave a speach, regarding this issue, He said there was an engineer that operated the train for 40 years and every day he stoped at the final stop and everyone walked off the train and saw the engineer in the uniform and never said anything to him. so after his retirment he came up to rabbi Kaulfman and told him u know i operated the train for 40 years and not ones anyone came up to me and said thank you. Even though its peoples jobs and they are paid for it they want to feel like human beings too so you have to treat a person like a human being even though they are paid for it.

It's an interesting question, I was just thinking the same. You don't want to look a** kissing to your boss, on the other hand, we've done it in school, in college just to show the respect and appreciation for their support and coaching. My personal opinion - it's not only appropriate to give either a card or a small present, but a good gesture, which characterizes you as a thoughtful and appreciative employee. You should understand that what your co-worker said about the gift to the boss might be a reflection of her financial situation, personal opinion or relationships with her boss. Having said that, I would not show off a “gift-giving” process in front of the colleagues. Do it privately. You'd still need to work with your teammates. And another thing, make sure your gift is appropriate - not too expensive, and definitely not offensive. There are some great ideas that could be found on the Internet

It is depends on many factors, such as a so call culture of the group you are working in, your personal relation with boss and so on. Anyway, present is always positive thing to do.

I doubt it's appropriate to give presents to boss(es). I think it's fine for boss(es) to give presents to employees, as long as it's done to everyone.
