A Queens mother of two is dead after being hit in the head by a stray bullet through the window of her fifth floor apartment Tuesday.
Police say the bullet struck 28-year-old Selina Aktheo in the head as she looked out the window of her fifth floor apartment after hearing gunshots.
Police are now searching for the shooter.
Neighbors told NY1 they’re upset that the tragedy hit so close to home.
"We've never had anything like that,” said one area resident. “The kids hang out here, but mostly they smoke their pot and they hang out, but no trouble."
"It's sad. When I heard the shots – my mother lives with me, the first thing I told her was not to go to the window. And to hear that somebody got shot looking out the window, that's sad," added another neighbor.
"Very, very hard. I live here for fifteen years and I don't know what to say," added a third.
Police say Aktheo was not the intended target. Her husband and kids were also inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.
