Mona Lisa 10-30-2006, 11:46 AM WHY IT BECAME "BAD LUCK" FOR THE GROOM TO SEE BRIDE BEFORE THE CEREMONY Until relatively recently, brides were considered the property of their father. Their futures and husbands were arranged without their consent. The marriage of an unattractive woman was often arranged with a prospective groom from another town without either of them having ever seen their prospective spouse. In more than one instance, when the groom saw his future wife, usually dressed in white, for the first time on the day of the wedding, he changed his mind and left the bride at the altar. To prevent this from happening, it became "bad luck" for the groom to see the bride on the day of the wedding prior to the ceremony. I got it from Yahoo answers. SipSiYo 10-30-2006, 11:52 AM I wouldn't go wedding dress shopping with my future monster in law ;) and I wouldnt want my future husband to see the dress or me in it until the day of the wedding.. Believe in G-d's blessing of your union (or whatever it may be). I didn't want my at that time boyfriend to see my wedding dress before the wedding because I wanted him to be pleasantly surprised. However, I also wanted him to love the dress in which I would be married to him, so it was safer to allow him to pick out my dress with me. At least I knew that the day of the wedding he would love the way I looked. My husband tells me now that he was still very pleasantly surprised when he saw me the day of the wedding. That day all the pieces of the wedding attire came together - the hair, nails, make-up, dress, shoes, tiara. It was nothing like trying on a dress before all the alterations. I was thrilled that he was still surprised. Wow such an optimism about the marriage bliss in the circle of his relatives ... such preemptive hate towards svikrovka. And you girls then wonder what is up with us when we make jokes about our tyoshas. Btw...as was pointed out that, by our tradition, groom is paying for the bride's dress, I believe he is very much entitled to see what he is buying, at least the dress itself after she already chose it and had a fitting. On the same token, wouldn't the bride want to participate in the Tuxedo selection for the groom too? Her parents are paying for that after all ;) SipSiYo 10-30-2006, 01:00 PM Wow such an optimism about the marriage bliss in the circle of his relatives ... such preemptive hate towards svikrovka. I thought it was a Christian thing. So, I went hunting for a wedding gown with my finacee. Then my mom told me that apparently it's not a good sign for him to see the wedding gown before the wedding. The only explanation I can think of, I guess, When he would see his future wife in the wedding gown, it will hit him that he is getting married. He might freak out and run away. hehehe Silly is it not?
