This is actually pretty old. The thing is that when u see a word many times, ur brain remembers it. That is why you begin to read faster as you get older. Ever notice how you have to slow and read a word u didnt know before twice before you can continue? like when ur in a classroom and the prof tells a student to read something. The student reads fast and suddenly stops and stumbles over and over on one word. It is cause your brain hasnt seen it enough and cant process it as fast as the others.

same goes for people. When you see a person you see every day, you can look at their face for a second and know who it is. But then when u see someone u saw some time ago only once, you need to "recognize" the person. Has to do with how memory is stored.

As for why the brain doesnt process "OF", i have no idea

I also fell for it. I think this happens because our brain after seeing 2 Fs as the first letters and on one line and no other, and then on the 3rd line it's the first character so our eyes just skim through the 2nd line faster focusing on the beginings of each word more then ends, and at longer words.
