View Full Version : Bukharian Name Changes - Your Oppinions
Executive 07-11-2005, 04:56 PM Recently I was having a conversation with a friend and she mentioned how many Bukharians are not only changing their last names, but first names as well. Not only that, but the names resemble those of other ethnic groups. Here is one is example that got me rolling on the floor:
Nerik Kusayev becomes Enrique Cosco :D
I understand this guy had plenty of reason to change his obviously akward last name, but look to what extreme he went.. Now he sounds like a Latino-Hispanic.

Are you "shopping" for a new name as well?
Btw, Nerik has not legally changed his name to Enrique. It is his stage name...do not worry, he is still amongs us ;-)

No, I have no reason to. My name is fairly balanced and not ultra-ethnic. Ican reveal it only upon request. ;)
lol I don't know the guy personally, I just know someone who knows him. "Stage" name? Is he into acting?

Pretty much ... he was singing at my wedding...
I have decided to put in that request as you have just offered...send it over at my pm box :party20:
Jew4Life 07-12-2005, 01:04 AM I know many people who changed their last names. The new once are so funny/stupid, it looses the whole bukh identity... :sign58:
SokolinyiGlaz 07-12-2005, 09:21 AM i think ladies can change their last names
if they want to
it will not last "long" anyway (kids adapt father's last name anyway)

not COsko, he became Cosa actually, when I heard that, I thought he should have become Kusa :D, I mean this is the only logical step if you remove either ov/ova or yev/yeva

did you check his license?
Executive 07-12-2005, 01:26 PM check his license, it says Enrique Cosa
Translate his last name into Bukharian :D. Doesn't it mean "Bowl"?
Kusa would defeat the purpose of changing it lol..
I have heard of a Bukharian guy who was named Enrico at birth and he is in his 40's. But Enrico is more European. Enrique is so South American.....

I heard about this guy Yakov/Jacob who has changed his name to Jack.
Although he is thinking of becoming a JONN now, since he has always been a Yanik at home.
Very balanced and ultra-ethnic. :cool43:

First of all I am Jacob/Yanik and yes I was considering making it Jon to match Yan because my Hebrew name is Yehiel anyway. My Soviet birth certificate had Yakov originally, but that was never my intended name.
My best friend is Jack/Yakov who also grew up in the USA together with me since the age of 1. I also have an aquaitence named Jon, who was born here. Please get your facts straight....

he is not changing it
he doesnt even know what it means
P.S. he is not buharian
Inquisitor 07-13-2005, 11:58 AM whoa....i love the name Yehiel. its gorgeous.
why is it so hard for some people to use their Hebrew name as the one and only name? Especially when it is so "gorgeous"!
is it because they are ashamed of it? American friends won't find it cool?
Jacob/Yanik/Jack/Jon, do you know?

If you feel like using your Jewish name, by all means whatever floats your boat :). If you feel comfortable being called by your jewish name, that is whats counts.
Up until the 8th grade I was a Yakov, and I never really felt comfortable with it. I then made it Jacob which is the exact equivalent of Yakov anyway, so not much changed.
My friend Yakov, made his Jack earlier back in the 3rd grade, thus he assimilated with the Hispanic crowd quite fast while I made it to the "Intelligent and Gifted Children" class :D. (I am not making a correlation with that based on our names.)
OceanofMemories 07-13-2005, 12:04 PM ahhh inquisitor! again, i know this has nothing to do with anything, but i see that u removed ***** from ur quote. now i would like to bother u with one more tiny thing. i never saw or heard of burning at the stake as being one of the punishments for not returning to Hashem.
maybe u want to fix that up also :) please.

Dear Ocean, I'm glad to see that you noticed that about Inquisitor's quote, however, what puzzles me is that it most definetly isn't referring to Hashem, but to JC.

Admin, I told you there will be members disappointed at that change!
next time your post has nothing to do with anything, just don't post anything. ;)

Inquisitor, you will need to give a little bit of insight of the meaning of your sn for the members to understand about the Inquisition and Gechka...

We, the Admin of Boojle, promote freedom of choice and freedom of speech. But in order to prevent the anarchy among our "family" members, we need to set a tone at the top. I am sure that u are well aware of the laws governing the US constitution amendment of freedom of speech. "We are free and yet not free to do all that we desire"
So let the Freedom with Boundaries reign ....

Would that mean "Kill Life"? It would sound funny in Russian: Morda Khaim'a. Ile Khaima Morda :). Why not simply keep it as Mordechai?

These don't make sense and some even sound rediculous. And some turned into ashkenazi last names from Bukharian ones. That's disappointing. What a shame.

Actually, it should not be two words, it should be one, Mordekhai. Just like that guy's name, from the story, of "Ester Magilam" (i dont know if i spelled correctly word magilam, but that's how i remember it.)
TheGreatOne 07-13-2005, 07:32 PM The comment has nothing in common with TGO's -- the comment is about limiting freedom of speech, whereas TGO's is, among other things, to reduce unnecessary aggravation of the poster who doesn't "get it". :)
