Remember Laughter?

Have you ever noticed how you feel after you’ve just had a good belly laugh? Suddenly, whatever was burdening you seems to just fade away. For that moment in time, you become a different person, a person without a care in the world, stress-free.

Most of us are aware that when people are smiling and happy, they radiate a different kind of energy than when they are depressed and gloomy. Yet we rarely stop to analyze why this is so. There is a scientific field called kinesiology that tests the muscle reactions to different stimuli. Studies in this field show that when a person thinks a negative thought, the muscle being tested becomes weaker, whereas when a person thinks a positive thought, it remains strong.

Negative thoughts have negative effects on the body.

Kabbalah teaches us the reason for this is very simple: When we are heavily involved with ourselves – focused on our own desire [to receive for the self alone] – we become consumed only with what we need and with what is missing and wrong with our lives. When we frown, it’s generally because our thoughts are focused on ourselves and only on ourselves.

But when we smile, it is like a sign that says, ‘my heart is open to be a friend, to listen to you, to have empathy for you.’ It’s like we are saying, ‘inside of me I have made room for you.’

Someone said to me a long time ago that if everyday we wake up understanding that everything we ‘think’ we have is only on loan to us and that we are all part of one energy, it would be easier to smile and give back. And what great gifts we have to share! The Creator has given each of us a part of itself – our soul - and it is only because we do not realize the potential of this gift that we do not share it.

The tool to enhance this potential and to bring out that part of ourselves which is like the Creator, is the understanding that the Light is always on. All we have to learn is how to find the switch. Through our smiles and laughter, the switch becomes more obvious to us.

We may find it difficult to smile but we should always keep it in our consciousness that the ever-present energy of the Creator is ours to tap into. All we have to do is reach in, grab it and share it with others around us.

All the Best,
Yehuda Berg
