Do you think that in today's economy, US government should continue to feed NASA and continue to spend millions of dollars for differenet projects such International Space station, different Shuttle launches etc?
Maybe there are more inmportant issues here on Earth, such as safety, war on terrorism? What do you think and why?

The most important thing in the US government is the stability of the nation. That said, this includes our safety in general and in dealing witht terrorism. Of course, when and if terrorism strikes, that is the number 1 issue to take care of. Once the nation is under controlm the country can spend some of the market's capital to further experiment their astrological interests and curiosities.

Unless our goverment is funding the study of Zodiac signs and horoscopes, its not "astrology" darling, its Astronomy. I would actually call it space exploration program ;)

одно другому нe мишает. There's a set budget for both programs (national defense and NASA). The problem is how that money is spent. By the way if not for NASA many useful gagets used by FBI and CIA would not exist. So both are interconnected. NASA, in some respects, keeps America in the front lines when it come to world progress.

Yeap I agree. This country practically prints money. Its how its spent that counts.. Yes, if not for our space program, we would have all those advanced satellites in orbit that can literally read a license plate number from a car...Not to forget all those usefull weather satellites as well.

There are some very useful and practical things that come out of the exploration that go beyond just the "pure science". For example, the satellites are used for broadcasting media and other signals, for GPS -- Global Positioning System -- that is used in modern cars' Navigation Systems (and not only there), which some lucky people have [yet still have an opportunity to wander around]. :) It also helps with exploration of natural resources. There are really a lot of very practical applications, but even "pure scientific" ones can become practical in the future, whether directly or indirectly.

Having said that, that still means that the money needs to be spent wisely. That's a question of "execution", not of "direction".
